Sonicare Toothbrush Braun Oral B Toothbrush Tartar Control Toothpastes Over the Counter Bleaches
The Sonicare toothbrush is a precision instrument which, with ultrasonic vibrations, literally detaches plaque from your teeth. It can disrupt the chains of bacteria growing in crevices around your mouth, and actually removes thin films of tartar.
By no means is this instrument a substitute for flossing. However, for those who can't, won't, or desire an extra degree of hygiene, this is a good instrument and will, for most people, outperform manual brushing.
When using the Sonicare, be sure not to let the back side of the head touch your teeth- it makes an annoying clatter. The brush should be moved very slowly with the bristles pointed into the gum line. Your mouth should be moist and a small amount of toothpaste is advised. Don't press too hard, and don't miss any gumline territory! That is where gum disease starts. -KRG
This is another mechanical toothbrush, this one sporting a round head which makes oscillations. This brush is used basically the same as the one above, and I find it also sturdy and effective. In fact, when I travel I often take both with me, allowing for my choice according to them whim of the day!
I do feel that the Sonicare is probably better in cases of severe crowding or complicated dental work or orthodontia. This one also comes in a kid's version. -KRG
We do not at this time recommend the use of tartar control toothpastes. Despite advertising and some research to the contrary, in our opinion we and our hygienists Tracy Sicardi, RDH, and Pura Monroe, RDH, find very little difference, and we feel the these dentrifices are more abrasive than necessary for routine use.
